Frequently Asked Questions

What makes IAT different from JEE?+

IAT emphasizes conceptual and scientific reasoning over speed-based problem solving, and includes Biology as a core subject option.

Do I have to attempt all four subjects in IAT?+

No. IAT typically lets you choose questions from three out of the four subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology), so you can skip the subject you're weakest in.

Which institutes accept the IISER Aptitude Test score?+

IAT scores are used for admission to the BS-MS dual degree program across all seven IISERs (Pune, Kolkata, Mohali, Bhopal, Thiruvananthapuram, Tirupati, and Berhampur).

Is there an alternative to IAT for IISER admission?+

Yes — IISERs have historically also admitted a portion of students through KVPY (where still applicable) or JEE Advanced-based channels alongside IAT, though policies can change each year, so check the current admission brochure.

How is IAT different in difficulty compared to board exams?+

IAT questions are conceptually deeper than typical board exam questions, testing scientific reasoning and application rather than direct recall, though they don't require the intense speed and volume of practice that JEE Advanced demands.
