Frequently Asked Questions
Is UCEED accepted by institutes other than IIT Bombay?+
Yes, several design institutes across India accept UCEED scores in addition to IIT Bombay's B.Des program.
What is the difference between NID DAT and UCEED?+
NID conducts its own Design Aptitude Test (DAT) for admission to its campuses, while UCEED is a separate exam conducted by IIT Bombay for B.Des programs at IITs and IIITDM Jabalpur. They have different syllabi, dates, and application processes, so you'll need to apply to each separately.
Do I need a drawing or art background to apply?+
No formal art background is required. Both exams test visual perception, observation, and design thinking that can be developed through consistent practice, not prior formal training.
Is there a Mains and a Studio Test for NID DAT?+
Yes — NID's process typically has a written Mains exam followed by a Studio Test / interview round for shortlisted candidates, which evaluates hands-on design and communication skills.
Can I appear for both NID DAT and UCEED in the same year?+
Yes, since they are conducted by different bodies with separate application processes and (usually) different exam dates, most candidates apply to both to maximize their options.
